A device for assisting in the manual hoisting of a painter while allowing a user to rest between heaves and to controllably pay out the painter by means of a braking system acting thereupon. The device consists of a U-shaped supporting frame (1) attached to the front of the boat, a combination sprocket (2) fastened to the frame (1) by a shaft (4), and a ratchet lever (3) is attached to the frame (1) by a bolt (5) to prevent the sprocket (2) from rotating in the boat/berth direction and thereby to lock the painter. Said shaft (4) is locked on the frame (1) by a nut (6), and a knurled nut is screwed onto the other end of the shaft (4) so that when it is tightened flanges (7 and 9) squeeze two washers (8) against the sprocket (2) to brake or lock it according to the pressure applied thereto. |
