PURPOSE:To provide a substrate material wherein its sliding characteristics are excellent, its strength is high, its tenacity is high, it is wear-resistant, its friction-resistant electrification property is small due to its small resistivity and it is suitable for a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A substrate material for magnetic head use is composed mainly of tetragonal ZrO2 in which Y2O3 or MgO has been solid-dissolved and contains is to 40wt.% of TiC and 5 to 20wt.% of at least one silicide of Ti, Zr, Mo, W, Ta, Nb and Cr. |
