The jet assembly to clean the running blanket, in a papermaking machine, is connected to a supply of moist warm air for delivery through at least one opening such as a flat jet, a number of circular jets or a slit jet. The jet is connected to the cleaned exhaust air from the drying section of the papermaking machine. A scraper to remove water blown out is opposite the jet, and a suction tube is on the other side of the blanket facing the jet to extract water which penetrates through the blanket. The jet outlet opening is at a finite gap from the blanket surface, supported by a bell-shaped distance piece. ADVANTAGE - The blanket is cleaned by a pressure medium, without increasing the blanket temp. or blanket wear.
