A bedridden patient lies in a bed equipped with a waterproof mat with raised edges which form a bathtub. The mat is provided with to prevent it rucking and has an outlet and a water supply pipe. The patient is given a bath or therapeutic treatment with the aid of a mobile service unit. The mobile service unit is equipped with a tank (10) for holding the water (11) for washing the patient or for holding a therapeutic liquid. The contents of the tank are delivered to the patient through a pipe (23) either by pressurising the tank, or by a pump (17). USE/ADVANTAGE - Service unit for washing a bedridden patient without removing the patient from the bed.
