The vehicle is provided with wheels which are suitable for multi-purpose use so that it can be used on roads, or on rail or as a cross-country vehicle. The vehicle has two wheels (15) mounted on opposite ends of a fixed axle and positioned to run on the rails (19). Road wheels (16) are attached to the axle by a pivoted joint. The road wheels can be swung upwards clear of the track when the vehicle is running on rails or can be swung downwards to support the vehicle.
