The folded carton blanks are held in supports around the outside of a rotary carousel, with the side flaps to be glued (13) facing outwards. The flaps pass a rotary glue applicator with arms (22,23) which apply controlled stripes of adhesive to the flaps. The applicator arms rotate at the same speed as the carousel so that a controlled adhesive deposition is obtained. After glueing the flaps are folded under the top flap and secured.
