<p>A rotary machine, primarily for use as an air compressor, comprises a shaft (15) defining a first axis of rotation (20) and a second axis of rotation (22) offset with respect to the first axis (20). A casing (41) is mounted on the shaft (15) for rotation about the first axis (20). A rotor assembly (50) is mounted on the shaft (15) for rotation about the second axis (22). The rotor assembly (50) comprises a plurality of radially disposed cylinders and a piston (61) mounted for reciprocation in each cylinder. Each piston (61) is coupled to the casing (41) whereby the piston (61) is caused to reciprocate within the cylinder upon rotation of the casing (41). A control means (71), provided for accommodating relative movement between the rotor assembly (5) and the casing (41) arising from the eccentricity between the axes (20, 22), comprises a plurality of eccentric connections (73) between the casing (41) and the rotor assembly (50).</p> |
