A safely belt for a motor vehicle has one end attached to a drum which is mounted on a bolt (10). The bolt is prevented from rotating by its hexagonal hole (7) in a bracket (1) which is fixed to the vehicle structure. The drum (14) is attached to the bolt (10) by an L-shaped piece of wire (18). The longer arm (17) of the L-shape fits in a groove (16) in the bore (13) of the drum (14) whilst the shorter arm (19) of the L-shape fits in a radial hole (20) in the bolt. In the event of a crash the increased force applied to the belt deforms the wire (18). USE/ADVANTAGE - Motor vehicle safety belt with energy absorption device.
