The coil is used as a circuit board surface-mounted device and has a number of projections (14,159 around its periphery formed integral with the ferrite core (11). The projections (14,15) lie in a common plane with the ends of the coil winding (16) wound around them, so that they provide the coil terminals attached to the surface of the circuit board (25) in alignment with corresponding conductor paths (20) via a solder paste. Pref. in the case of a rectangular coil core (11) or a double annular coil core, the projections (14,15) extend to either side at each end.
