A pipework (or cabling) duct is formed in a floor from channel members having a generally rectangular U-shape section with inwardly directed flanges (50) on the opposed walls to support a lid. Flooring of the type having a solid base, rigid insulating material on the base and board as a surface layer is then cut to remove the surface layer and insulation in the pattern required, the channel members are located in the cut-outs and attached to the surface layer boarding and, after installation of the pipework or cabling, the lid (53) is fitted. This can be formed from the cut out portions of the surface layer, but is preferably an inverted channel-shaped extrusion. |
