The machine tool has a slide which slides on guide rails which are fastened to the bedplate (3). The guide rails are secured by screws (5) which pass upwards through holes in the flange of the bedplate and engage tapped holes (23) in the undersides of the rails. The axis (21) of each screw is inclined at an acute angle (alpha) to the vertical central plane (22) of the rail (2). With this method of fixing the rails, any swarf falling onto the rails is pushed aside by the slide. USE/ADVANTAGE - Guide rails for slide for a machine tool. The method of fixing eliminates the need for protective covers.
