PURPOSE: To obtain a two bed pressure swing adsorption process having a high yield and a high production rate and to save driving power by utilizing fine or normal size zeolite sieve material and relatively short cycle times and sequencing the various steps of the process to provide substantially continuous use of a vacuum pump. CONSTITUTION: A process is operated in six steps as a whole for each complete cycle. In steps 1-3, a first column A is continuously evacuated with a vacuum pump 16, and in steps 4-6, a second column B is evacuated with the vacuum pump 16. Consequently the vacuum pump 16 is used throughout the complete cycle in this embodiment. In steps 1, 4 which are pressure equalization steps, a gas is introduced from a column under evacuation to another column. In steps 2, 5 a column which is not under evacuation receives a reversed charging gas from a product holder 18. In steps 3, 6 the column which is not under evacuation receives a feed gas to produce a product. The product gas is used to purge a column under evacuation. |
