<p>The system comprises an electro-optical imaging device 10 that frames the casting orifice or cup 3 of the mould or press F and provides electrical signals corresponding to the image, and an electronic processing and control unit 12 connected to a device 4, 5 to control the casting flow. This unit 12 is designed to analyse the image signals generated by the operation of the electro-optical imaging device 10 and to generate electrical signals or data indicating the level of the metal spindle in the casting orifice or cup 3 of the mould or press F, and signals or data indicating the rate of change of the said level. The unit 12 sends control signals to the valve device 4, 5 for controlling the casting flow so that the level and the rate of change of the level of the metal in the casting orifice or cup progress during the casting essentially in a predetermined manner.
