<p>A magnetic recording medium is disclosed which comprises a substrate, and a magnetic recording layer and a protective layer containing silicon oxide as the main component, which are formed on at least one surface of the substrate in the order as mentioned, a sheet resistivity of the protective layer being 1 x 10<1><3> L/<1>.
