Cassettes for VHS recorders have a pivotable flap, which in a first position closes the cassette housing and in a second position releases the magnetic tape. The object is to provide a novel design for this which is simple and space-saving and in particular permits adaptation of the small C cassette to a conventional home video recorder. The hubs (4, 5) are surrounded by crescent-shaped, pivotable tape-protecting flaps (6, 7), the ends of which butt against each other in a first position (Fig. 1) and are apart from each other in a second position (Fig. 2).
