ABNORMALITY DETECTOR FOR ENCODER

PURPOSE:To detect abnormality of an increment type encoder as position detector for determining the position of rotation of a servo motor for robots directly or indirectly distinguished from an action when the position of rotation of the encoder does not change. CONSTITUTION:A servo motor 4 is provided with a control section 1 to repeat normal and reverse rotations alternately within a specified range from the position of rotation when at least the position of rotation is constant and a sensor 6 to detect that at least any of detection pulses involved in the normal and reverse rotations of the encoder 5 stops. The encoder is determined to be abnormal based on a detection signal involving the stopping of the pulses of the sensor 6.
