The invention provides novel aminophosphonate-containing polymers of the following structure: (I) wherein A represents repeating units derived from one or more ethylenically unsaturated comonomers, and B is (II) wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, X is hydrogen or an alkali metal, Z is CH2 - P(O)(OX)2 or C1 - C6 alkyl, aryl, cyclohexyl or alkaryl; and n and m are positive integers, m/n = 0.01 to 0.50, and preferably m/n is 0.01 to 0.25. The polymers are useful as dispersants for concentrated aqueous slurries.
