Compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) in which R1 to R8 independently of one another are H and at least one of R1 to R8 is a substituent belonging to the group -F, -Si(C1-C4alkyl)3 or -COOR10; or each pair of adjacent radicals of R1 to R8 is -CO-O-CO-; or at least one of R1 to R8 is C1-C20alkyl-(X)p-, C2-C20alkenyl-(X)p-, C2-C20-alkynyl-(X)p-, C3-C8cycloalkyl-(X)p-, (C1-C12alkyl-C3-C8cycloalkyl-(X)p-, C3-C8-cycloalkyl-CH2-(X)p-, C1-C12alkyl-C3-C8cycloalkyl-CH2-(X)p-, C6-C10aryl-X-, C7-C20alkaryl-X-, C7-C12aralkyl-(X)p- or C8-C20-alkaralkyl-(X)p- or -Y-(CmH2m-O)-nR10 each of which is unsubstituted or substituted by -F, -OH, -CN, C1-C12alkoxy, C1-C12acyloxy or -COOR10; R10 is H or C1-C18alkyl, X is -O-, -S-, -SO- or -SO2- and Y is -O- or -S-, and p is 0 or 1, m is a number from 2 to 6 and n is a number from 2 to 20; and R9 is C1-C4acyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by -F. The compounds are intermediates for the preparation of 5,6,11,12-tetrathiotetracenes which form electrically conducting charge-transfer complexes with electron donors.
