PURPOSE:To obtain excellent image quality by uniformizing the quantity-of-light distribution of an optical writing head in the main scanning direction thereof. CONSTITUTION:Two rows of the light shutter parts 102 of the light shutter array incorporated in an optical writing head are parallelly arranged in a zigzag pattern and the light transmitting surface 102a of each of the light shutter parts 102 is formed into a parallelogram. The light shutter parts 102 are arranged by alternately employing two different pitch dimensions of (P+10)muM AND (p-10)mum so as to uniformize the quantity-of-light distribution of the optical writing head. Two different pitch dimensions are determined on the basis of the quantity-of-light distribution characteristics of the light shutter array. A dimension P is a pitch dimension when all of the light shutter parts 102 are arranged at an equal pitch.
