PURPOSE: To extract the exact whole periphery of a structure from a looked- down topo-graphical picture by recognizing which part of the picture is the structure, and reproducing the idealized whole periphery of the structure constituted of straight lines from a plurality of sources including a noise in the digitized picture. CONSTITUTION: A flag is applied to a composite connecting picture element 70 by a composite LUT 84, a picture element substituting function is switched to an outline continuous LUT 86, and the chain codes of those picture elements are continuously decided by a direction LUT 82. However, the substitute value of the picture element related with an input raster bit map is decided by the LUT 86. Then, rear tracing can be attained from the projection of an end terminal on an outline by using the LUT 86. Thus, following-up for the complicated and noisy outline can be attained by this rear tracking to the composite connecting picture element. Moreover, when the outline is crossed and any more picture element is not found in the outline by an operator mask, the outline following-up processing is ended. |
