A vitroceramic hotplate, gas-heated by at least one main burner (10a, 10b), comprises an auxiliary burner (12) as a pilot light similar in structure to the main burners. Gas is supplied to the main and auxiliary burners via the same tap (38) which closes automatically when the auxiliary burner goes out. The outlet from the auxiliary burner (12) is in a plane which faces the inlet pipes (26a, 26b) of the air/gas combustible mixture in the main burners (10a, 10b).
