The present invention relates to a member for blind riveting and to a method for manufacturing a chuck for such a member. The riveting member comprises a chuck and a bush. The bush (18) is pierced with a bore (26) in which the shank (12) of the chuck is housed. The chuck has a head (13) of diameter greater than the bore (26) and the shank (12) has an upstream length (14) and a downstream length (15) of different diameters, separated by an annular breakage groove (16) covered by a crimping bead (17) extending the upstream length. After installation and tensile loading T on the shank of the chuck, the bead 17 unrolls in order to anchor in the bush (18). The shank then breaks at the level of the groove (16) and it remains in place in the two components (22, 23) to be assembled, a riveting member exhibiting no part which projects with respect to the component (23). <IMAGE>
