PURPOSE:To automatically detect a part intended by a photographer as a target on a finder image pickup surface, and to execute an AF action by using the detected target part as a range-finding zone. CONSTITUTION:An object imaged by an image pickup system is picked up by an electronic view finder 5. The light emitting elements of each area of a light emitting element and light receiving sensor part 7 corresponding to the image pickup surface of the electronic view finder 5, emit light. The light is reflected by the eye 9 of a person via a half-mirror 6, and returned to the light emitting element and light receiving sensor part 7. The image pickup surface of the finer 5 corresponding to the area on which the light emitting element of the position of the point target of the light receiving sensor most intensely receiving the returned light, exists, is defined as the range-finding zone, and the automatic focusing is executed. |
