The broaching machine has at least one vertical pillar (3,3') with guides (4,6;4',6') for a slide carriage(s) (7,7'), which carries a tool holder (8) and a tool (9). Each slide carriage has an attached toothed rack (12,12') which meshes with a driving pinion (13). The toothed rack is fitted to the side of the slide carriage which faces the tool. The axis (A) of the driving pinion is inclined at an angle to the horizontal axis of each slide carriage which is significantly different from 90 deg.
