PURPOSE: To visually discriminate the charged state of a battery by connecting a tester constituted of a working electrode composed of an electronic conductor, an electrochromic material, counter electrode, etc., to the external terminals of the battery. CONSTITUTION: A tester 20 is made of an electrochromic material 25. This material 25 changes in color when the degree of oxidation which occurs as one of the redox reaction caused when a DC voltage is applied changes. The material 25 can be seen through a window 23 opened through the cover 21 of the tester 20. The terminals 31 and 33 of conductors 27 and 29 led out from both ends of the tester 20 are connected to the external terminals of a battery to be inspected. Since a color scale 37 having three color codes (new, usable, and to be exchanged) is attached to the housing of the battery, the charged state of the battery can be recognized immediately when the color of the material 25 is compared with the scale 27. When the material 25 has a liquid phase, it is required to attach a switch 35 to the tester 20 and turn on the switch 35 only when tests are conducted. |
