The invention relates to an electromagnetic control of the handbrake of a car. It is made up of a lever without ratchet (1) connected by the arm (2) and the connecting rod (3) to the ferromagnetic piston (4) sliding in the tilting cylinder (5) fixed to the platform, between the front and rear seats. An electromagnetic sucker with permanent magnet (6) is fixed to the bottom of the cylinder. When the lever is pulled into the braking position, it pushes the piston against the sucker, which holds it using a permanent magnetic force, keeping the brakes applied. Upon start-up, the contactor (11) supplies a voltage to the winding of the sucker, the magnetic field of which destroys that of the permanent magnet, allowing the piston to detach. The lever is no longer retained. Returned by its spring to the down position, it releases the brakes, returning the piston. The electromagnetic control of the handbrake is intended to facilitate hill starts. <IMAGE>
