THIAZOLIDINEDIONE DERIVATIVE AND PHARMACEUTICAL CONTAINING THE SAME

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a thiazolidinedione derivative having excellent hypoglycemic action and hypolipidemic action and useful as a treating agent for diabetes. CONSTITUTION:The derivative of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are H or lower alkyl) or its pharmacologically permissible salt, e.g. 5-[4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridyl]benzyl]-2,4- thiazolidinedione. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II (R' is H or lower alkyl; X is eliminable group) with thiourea in a solvent (e.g. methanol or dimethyl sulfoxide) in the presence of an acid acceptor preferably at 50-150 deg.C) and hydrolyzing the obtained compound of formula III in the above solvent in the presence of a mineral acid at 60-150 deg.C.
