Multilayer material intended especially for the production of an antierosion and antiabrasion coating and the processes for the manufacture of this multilayer material and of one of the layers of the latter. The objective of the invention is to produce a material which is stronger and which can be deposited at low temperatures. This objective is obtained with the aid of a multilayer material characterised in that it includes a substrate (2) covered with at least one ductile layer (4) of metallic tungsten and with at least one hard layer (6) of a solid solution of carbon in tungsten, this solid solution containing less than 25 atom % of carbon, with the two types of layers (4) and (6) alternating. The invention relates more particularly to the production of coatings for components employed in aeronautics. <IMAGE>
