PURPOSE:To display useful information by detecting and reporting the destination information based on the name information of the road in the specified road region close to the present position and the advancing direction. CONSTITUTION:In this system, a main controller 9 including a GPS receiver 2 and a control circuit 3, a GPS antenna 1, a vehicle mounted display unit 4, a memory card unit 5 and a CDU unit 6 are provided. A guidance display mode for displaying the destination which is registered beforehand and the relationship between a relay point and the present position and a present-position display mode are provided. The modes are displayed on the unit 4. For these display functions, information with regard to maps is registered into an atlas ROM of the controller 9 as a database. Various kinds of data with regard to roads are registered in a memory card 8 beforehand. Therefore, the region including the coordinates of a point close to the coordinates of the present position is specified with a retrieving means in reference to the registered information. The name of the destination is detected based on the name of the road corresponding to the region and the advancing direction. The results are outputted to a reporting means and displayed. |
