Penicillium spp., in particular DSM 4209 and 4210, forms, under specific fermentation conditions, novel natural products with a ten-membered ring lactone structure, of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R<1> denotes hydroxyl, oxo or, together with R<2>, denotes a double bond or is linked in a ring with oxygen, in the latter case, however, R<3> then represents methoxy, R<2> denotes hydrogen or, together with R<5>, is linked in a ring with oxygen or, together with R<3>, denotes a double bond, in the latter case, however, R<1> then represents oxo, R<3> denotes hydrogen, hydroxyl or methoxy or, together with R<4>, denotes a double bond, R<4> denotes hydrogen or hydroxyl and R<5> denotes hydrogen or oxo, which have antibacterial and lipid-regulatory properties and, in particular, affect the biosynthesis of cholesterol. |
