<p>A skinning machine (10) having a gripping roll (72), a skinning blade (76), a power unit (54) for rotating the gripping roll (72), and a safety circuit responsive to manual contact of the machine operator with danger zone of the skinning machine. A clutch (46, 48) is provided to the skinning machine and is operatively connected to the gripping roll (72) and the power source (54) for the gripping roll. A brake (58) is connected to the safety circuit and the gripping roll (72). The clutch (46, 48) is normally operative, and the brake (58) is normally inoperative, whereby the brake (58) will stop the rotation of the gripping roll (72) when the safety circuit is activated to overcome the operative condition of the clutch (46, 48). The brake (58) includes a coiled spring (60, 62) that tightens on a hub (26) connected to the gripping roll (72) when the safety circuit is actuated. The safety circuit includes a solenoid device (56) that releases the spring (58) to tighten on the hub (26) when the safety circuit is actuated.</p> |
