Accordingly, a display system (1) is provided whereby visual elements (300) can be independently transported not only around but also parallel to the display axis. The display comprises a central shaft (100); carriages (200) mounted along the length of this shaft (100); and visual elements (300) borne by the carriages (200). Each carriage (200) has a circumferential drive train (205) which can propel it around the shaft (100), and an axial drive train (234) engageable with a visual element (300) such that the visual element (300) can be passed generally parallel to the shaft (100) from one carriage (200) to an axially adjacent carriage (200). Ideally, the system (1) is controlled by a computer system (401) which may be programmed to move the carriages (200) and visual elements (300) in complex configurations. |
