<p>The receptor for IgD (IgD-R) on T lymphocytes has lectin-like properties and binds to carbohydrate moieties of IgD. Thus IgD-associated glycans bind to the IgD-R. Therefore, IgD-associated glycans, neoglycans comprising the IgD-associated glycans, and pharmaceutical compositions comprising these glycans are provided. The glycans and pharmaceutical compositions are useful in a method for inhibiting the binding of IgD to an IgD receptor, a method for inhibiting an immune response involving the interaction of T and B lymphocytes in a subject, and a method for treating a subject with an immune-mediated disease. Because the glycans can upregulate expression of IgD-R, they are also useful in a method for increasing the number of IgD receptors on the surface of a T lymphocyte, and in a method for enhancing an immune response in a subject being immunized with an antigen or vaccine.</p> |
