A lubricant for shaping metals, with the lube components dispersed/or dissolved in water, contains (A) 0.01-15 wt.% of alkaline earth soaps, (B) 0.05-15% of alkali or NH4 borate, (C) 0-14% of alkli of NH4 phosphate, (D)0-10% of organic polymers, and (E) 0.005-10% of reaction prods. from components (A)-(D), formed in aq. soln. at pH above 6.9 and temps. below 95 deg.C the sum of the amts. of (A)-(E) is less than 35 wt.%.
