Double weir liq. phase separator - suitable for removing oily contaminants from water in boreholes

Phase separator, e.g. for removal of a floating layer from a water surface has first container to receive the liquids to be sepd. having a light-phase over-flow (7), with at least one second container communicating with the first container and having a heavy-phase overflow. Both overflows are arranged with an elevation difference which corresponds to the equilibrium liquid head difference of the two liquid surfaces in the containers. A borehole has ground-water with a surface layer of e.g. benzene which has percolated from ground surface level to the water table. A phase separator allows the sepd. phases (benzene/water) to be pumped to the ground surface level via lines. USE/ADVANTAGE - Universally applicable separator, suitable for removing organic sovlents from water in narrow wells, boreholes, etc.
