METHOD FOR COMPARATIVE DETERMINATION OF POLYELECTROLYTE CHARGE

The method is used in the chemical industry for the production of carboxymethylcellulose, as well as in other fields. It can be used to obtain reliable comparative data on the polyelectrolyte charge. According to this method, aqueous solutions of the polyelectrolyte and a reference polyelectrolyte are mixed separately with an oppositely-charged carrier suspension in a certain specified mass ratio, and allowed to remain during 2-5 hours at room temperature. The relative scattered-light intensity upon application of a variable electric field E and disorientation time when the electric field is turned off are measured, and the slope of the function a/E2 is then measured
