A method for separating fine particles contained in an aqueous solution readily to thereby clarify the solution and, if necessary, recovering the separated particles, by using a mineral adsorbent containing 35 to 65 % of SiO2 and the balance based on at least one member selected among MgO, CaO, Al2O3 and FeO. An aqueous solution containing fine particles is passed through a layer packed with the adsorbent at a pH of 9 or below, whereby the adsorbent is electrified positive while most of the particles are electrified negative. As a result, the fine particles are adsorbed on the adsorbent by an electric attraction, thus separating from the aqueous solution. When the resultant adsorbent is brought into contact with a desorbing solution at a pH of 10 or above, both the particles and the adsorbent are electrified negative. As a result, the particles are separated from the adsorbent by an electric repulsion and migrate into the desorbing solution. |
