Vehicle seat cushion (4) e.g. for an aircraft seat comprises a supporting body (6) having a lower supporting part (7) and a seat part (8) both made from a foamed synthetic resin (34) or layers (28,29,30) of different foamed plastics (31,32,33) with a pre-stressed spring core (9) embedded and having a flame proofing layer (36) of flame retardant elastically deformable plastics foam with a detachably attached cover of elastically deformable covering material (44) and an optional layer (37) intermediate the support body and flame proofing layer and made from high strength, high temperature resistant fibres, e.g. of metal, carbon, ceramics, plastics such as polytetrafluoroethylene etc..
