<p>A sheet inverting device is provided with a sheet transport path including an upstream path including a first roller pair (11), a downstream path including a second roller pair (15), and an inverting path arranged between the upstream and downstream path. Along the inverting path is arranged a reversing means including a reversing roller (13) rotatable reciprocally and a contact member (131) movable between a contact position where it is in contact with the reversing roller and a spaced position where it is away from the reversing roller. The reversing roller is driven in a forward direction while the sheet is transported from the inverting path to the downstream roller pair. The contact member is held in the spaced position while a monitor device for monitoring the position of the sheet being transported detects that preceding and following sheets being transported overlap each other at the position of the reversing roller. <IMAGE></p> |
