An electric baking and roasting oven has a cooking chamber (2) which can be closed by a door (5) and is divided into two separate cooking chamber areas (9, 10) by a plate (8). The plate (8) can be inserted in the cooking chamber, can be connected to a power supply and is provided with a heating element (11) for underheating the upper cooking chamber area (9), the latter being provided at the top with a heating element (7) for over-heating. In order to increase the service value or usefulness of this baking and roasting oven, another heating element (12), which serves as an over-heater for the lower cooking chamber area (10), is incorporated in the cooking chamber dividing plate (8), and the lower cooking chamber area (10) is provided with an under-heating heating element (6). The heating of the lower cooking chamber area (10) is thermally controllable substantially independently of that of the upper cooking chamber area (9).
