Grinding apparatus has a grinding disc grinding a tool, both of which are washed with coolant from a hose. The coolant collects in a funnel and enters a separation channel comprising a labyrinthine path over a magnetised floor plate. Tungsten carbide is faintly responsive to a magnetic field and can be drawn out of suspension thereby.
