PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of cleaning defects caused by vibration, abrasion and so on of a cleaning blade by making electric potential remain in a part of an electrification eliminating area of an image carrier, and sticking developer to it in the case of making a copy of a document of small width dimension or a reduction copy. CONSTITUTION:An eliminating array 42 consisting of LED as an eliminating means is arranged between an electrification charger 13 and a developing unit 15, and lighting of the LED is controlled according to the paper size or the magnification, and by eliminating electrification in a non image forming area of a photosensitive drum 12, an electrification eliminating area is formed. In the case of making a copy of a document of small width dimension or a reduction copy continuously, prior to scanning of the document, arrays in both end parts of the eliminating array 42 are put out for a prescribed time, and an electrified electric charge is made to remain in both end parts of an image eliminating area of the photosensitive drum 12, and developer is stuck to this electric charge by means of the developing unit 15. Thereby, vibration of a cleaning blade 43, cleaning defects caused by jumping, abrasion of the tip of the blade 43 or the cleaning defects caused by breakage can be prevented. |
