SOLENOID MAGNETIC FIELD TYPE DISCHARGE LAMP

PURPOSE:To provide a solenoid magnetic field-type discharge lamp in which ring-shaped discharge is smoothly and surely generated within a bulb by tilting the coil axis of an exciting coil relative to the vertical direction. CONSTITUTION:The coil axis O-O of an exciting coil 20 is tilted relative to the direction of a vertical line and a high-frequency electric field generated within a bulb 10 is tilted accordingly. The electric field is concentrated on a partition wall 16, the connection end of a starting capillary 15, by glow discharge generated within the starting capillary 15 and gas in the bulb 10 is warmed and a convection is generated. The convection is coupled with the tilted high-frequency electric field being generated within the bulb 10, and starting voltage generated between the glow voltage and the high-frequency electric field is caused along the convection and plasma discharge is generated while being turned, so that ring-shaped discharge 12 is smoothly and surely generated.
