PURPOSE:To prepare such an amount of signal that can be contained in one track so as to facilitate special reproducing when the signal is recorded in a magnetic tape with a VTR. CONSTITUTION:At the time of an encoding processing within a frame, discrete cosine transformation is made for a video signal in a DCT(discrete cosine transformation) circuit 3 and the obtained signal is inputted to a quantitization circuit 4. At this time, when the amount of signal of a frame to be subjected to encoding is too large to record in one track, a quantitization table which encodes the frames before and after the frame subjected to encoding is controlled so that the signal amount of the frame subjected to encoding can be contained in one track. For this purpose, the signal amount of the frame to be encoded in the quantitization circuit 4 is monitored by a signal amount calculation circuit 22 and thus, the signal amount of the frames before and after the frame to be encoded can be adjusted by switching the quantitization table. |
