The method of mounting a fixed frame on to a surround consists in securing the said fixed frame (1) to the said surround (2) by means of anchoring brackets (3) distributed around the periphery and fixed, on the one hand, around the external perimeter (4) of the fixed frame (1) and, on the other hand, around the facing (5) of the surround (2). Advantageously, the anchoring brackets (3) are premounted around the external perimeter (4) of the fixed frame (1) in a continuous groove (6) which extends right around the external perimeter (4); the bottom rail (8) is then horizontally adjusted on the surround (2) before securing the two elements (1) and (2) together. This method is advantageously put to use during the renovation or repair of windows or glazed openings. <IMAGE>
