Paper web transport - has continuous elastic belt which distorts at hard press roller, to detach web for movement to next stage

The assembly to move a paper web through the press section of a papermaking machine has elastic surfaces on continuous belt which are in contact with the paper web. The surfaces which are not in contact with the paper web remain taut in a continuous belt of less elastic material and a hard roller against the belt. When the belt is pressed against the hard roller, it is distorted so that the paper web is taken from the hard roller and carried by the belt. The surface of the belt in contact with the paper web is constant while in contact with the paper. The surface of the elastic belt travels at the same speed as the web, or faster, and with an increasing speed where it is not distorted at the point of max. pressure and on either side of it to give the effect of detaching the web from the hard central press roller. ADVANTAGE - The assembly gives effective movement of the paper web from the press section to the next stage, with high web speeds, where the pressures on the material give the required structure for a lead into the next section without trimming. Web fractures are reduced and higher web speeds can be achievedx.
