[Class 51 (i)] A device for discharging a mixture of steam, preheated secondary air and combustion gases into the combustion chamber of a furnace, comprises a body member 10 exposed to the heat of the fire and having an extended air passage, a passage 9 intermediate its length for admitting combustion gases and means 42 for discharging steam under pressure into the passage 9 to inject the combustion gases into mixture with the preheated air before its discharge into the furnace chamber. The member 10 is of highly refractory material, adjustably secured at one corner of the combustion chamber by means of a clamping tube 19 which at its inner end is secured to the inlet end of the body 10 by nuts 20, 21 and at its outer end passes through a support 16 and is held by a nut 24. The member 16 is a diametric cross piece integral with a tubular anchoring member 14 embedded in the furnace wall 13 and forming the outer end of the air inlet passage 18. At the inner end of the passage 18 is another tubular anchoring member 12 against which the body 10 is tightly drawn by means of the tube 19 and nut 24. The air passage in the body 10 is divided into two branches 32 which rejoin in the discharge nozzle 33. Between the branches is an open ended passage 9 for the combustion gases which are injected through a nozzle 38 into the discharge outlet 33 by means of a steam jet from a nozzle 42 located within the passage 9 and supplied with steam by a pipe 27 which passes through the clamping tube 19. In order to reduce noise, the air passage 18 may be lined with sound absorbing material. The device may be attached to the furnace door. |
