An arc welded joint is between a carrier as one electrode and a metal component with a recess into which a stud like weld in part is introduced as the other electrode. The stud is rigidly connected to the component and carrier by arc welding and comprises a shank with a head made larger than the shank dia. via a step. The end face (10) of (4) is cambered and ignites the arc at its centre when it is in contact with (1).
