In the determn. of the optical activity of esp. liq. media, involving Stokes parameter determn. the novelty is that optical fibres (monomode fibres or multimode fibres provided with polarisation filters) are used for Stokes parameter determn. and are contacted optically with the medium being investigated. Equipment for carrying out the process is also claimed. ADVANTAGE - Stokes parameter determn. is carried out using small measuring cells which have high sensitivity, are easily sepd. from the light source and can be in the form of a miniature immersion probe.
