A vacuum switch has at least one vacuum switching tube (2) and a pole operating unit (5) at one end thereof. Each pole operating unit comprises a lever arrangement to transmit the operating movement generated by a drive device to the appropriate vacuum switching tube (2) and a contact pressure spring (16). There is also a contact surface (34) for an external conductor. The pole operating unit (5) has a U-shaped bearer (21) with elastically separable shanks (22) over which fits a connection device (6) which also has a U-shaped cross section. A counter-bearing (17) for the contact pressure spring (16) is secured between the shanks (22) after they have been separated. Instead of taking the form of a stamped and swaged component, the connection device (6) may also be a cast metal member (53) fitted with cooling fins.
